Sir Alex Ferguson has named a formidable 22 man squad, 11 of which will take on Real Madrid at the Bernabeu on Wednesday. Phil Jones and Jonny Evans have made the squad despite injuries picked up during the Everton match.
Ashley Young will make his return to the squad after a month out with a knee injury suffered in the Liverpool match. It is unclear if Young will start the match but the midfielder is at least guaranteed a place on the bench. Goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard is also included after being absent from the bench for the last two games. Evans and Jones, who both had to come off in the second half of the Everton match last weekend are included in the squad. This is very good news for United who have all of their defenders fit and ready to play a part.
One notable absentee for United is Paul Scholes who was left behind in Manchester due to a continuing knee complaint. The great form of Michael Carrick has meant that Scholes has not been missed terribly but his experience and calmness in these big matches will surely be missed.
Manchester United Squad: David de Gea, Anders Lindegaard; Alexander Buttner, Jonny Evans, Patrice Evra, Rio Ferdinand, Phil Jones, Rafael, Chris Smalling, Nemanja Vidic; Anderson, Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Ryan Giggs, Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young; Chicharito, Shinji Kagawa, Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Danny Welbeck
