Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic will be making his long awaited return to first team action when the Red Devils take on Sunderland at Old Trafford on Saturday. Sir Alex Ferguson has included the Serbian defender in his team to face the Black Cats.
Vidic has been out for United since September after he re-injured his knee and had to have surgery. Although Ferguson is still unsure if Vidic will start against Sunderland, his return to fitness will provide United with an excellent defensive boost heading into the busy Christmas period.
"Nemanja is back in the squad, which is big news in terms of the experience he brings to the squad," Ferguson said. "His defensive qualities are well renowned by now, and he is our captain. Whether I start him or not is another issue, but it is good to have him back."
There is not so positive news regarding Jonny Evans who picked up an injury in last weekend's win over Manchester City. United will be without the Northern Irish defender due to a hamstring problem. Ferguson brushed aside concerns regarding Rio Ferdinand and the eye injury he received after a City fan through a coin at him. Ferguson has confirmed that Ferdinand is not suffering any long-term problems from it and will be ready to play on Saturday. Ferguson also expects midfielder Shinji Kagawa to resume first team training on Monday. Ferguson stated that the Japanese midfielder is progressing well and should be back shortly.Tags: Jonny Evans, Manchester, Manchester United, Nemanja Vidic, Premier League, Rio Ferdinand, Shinji Kagawa, Sir Alex Ferguson, Soccer, Sunderland
