A little less than a month before the high-profile Manchester derby, Patrice Evra has begun a war of words with Manchester City, claiming the blue half of the city has never threatened Manchester United. Evra claims that City are a way off of emulating The Red Devil's success.
Evra has won a fair number of trophies in the six years he has been with United and, despite the riches that have been bestowed upon neighbors City, believes that their bitter rivals can not come close to matching United's success. United suffered two devastating blows against the blue half, a 6-1 mauling at home and then a crucial 1-0 loss that all but secured the title for City. Even though the rivalry has climbed to new heights, Evra insists that one does not exist primarily due to the gulf in success between the two clubs.
"There is not really a rivalry between the two clubs, as United have always been superior to City," Evra said. "We have always been Manchester's first club. The fact that they won the title last season changes nothing."
City were able to secure the Premier League title for only the third time in their history on the last day of the season. City won the trophy on goal difference which was superior to United's as both teams finished the season equal on points. United will play City at the Etihad Stadium on December 8th.
