Wayne Rooney picked up an ankle injury in Saturdays' win over Aston Villa and has also pulled out of England's friendly with Sweden in midweek. Now, news has come in that Robin van Persie has also pulled out of his country's friendly due to a thigh strain. Both players are doubts for this weekend's Premier League clash with Norwich.
Van Persie has picked up a thigh strain that will sideline him for the Netherlands' friendly with Germany. This means that Sir Alex Ferguson will be left with just two fit strikers for this weekends match at Norwich. Chicharito, who had a fantastic game against Aston Villa on Saturday, is guaranteed a start after Ferguson stated that this would be the case after his performance. Danny Welbeck will also certainly get a start should Rooney or van Persie not be able to play.
Rooney has already missed time this season due to a freakish injury that saw his leg get gashed open by a stud from a boot. Van Persie has featured, so far, in every game this season either as a starter or substitute and has all but shed his tag of an injury prone striker. The omission of both players from their country's squads could be just a precaution by United but it will come as a bad blow to the Red Devils if two of their star attackers face spells on the bench.
