A fan has been arrested following an investigation into an apparent monkey gesture that was made towards Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck during the Capital One Cup match between Chelsea and United at Stamford Bridge last week. Chelsea and the Metropolitan Police have launched investigations.
The incident was caught by a camera which showed a fan making the gesture at Welbeck in last Wednesday's Capital One Cup, which United lost to the Blues in overtime. Following the release of the photo, Chelsea and the Met Police confirmed they would be looking into the incident and would take proper action. On Monday, a 28 year old man was arrested and charged by the police. The man is being held at a west London police station and is being charged with a racially aggravated Section 4A Public Order Act offense.
